Vineyard

The first phase of the Vineyard was planted in March 1993 and consists of nearly 200 Reichensteiner vines set in a half acre walled garden dating back some 100 years. The first harvest of grapes was in October 1995 and 248 bottles of white wine was made from the maiden crop. In the same year another 200 vines were planted in the adjacent walled garden and the grapes from the second phase were harvested in 1998. A third phase of the vineyard under cultivation to approximately 500, covering an area of roughly one acre.

In 1997 an extraordinary amount of grapes were produced and it was decided to produce a Sparkling wine which could be ready in time for the Millennium celebrations at the hotel. The sparkling wine has been made using the Traditional Champagne Method, with a secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle, which takes two years to complete.

The wine is professionally made for us at Three Choirs Vineyard at Newent in Gloucestershire.
