We
planted the Pengethley Manor vineyard in three phases: the
first in 1993 in a walled garden. Since planting the vineyard
soon became a success and we set about expanding it in 1995
and again in 1999 when we introduced a new vine called Phoenix
which we imported from America. Today we have something in
excess of 700 vines in production.
From its Reichensteiner Saval Blanc and Phoenix grapes
Pengethley Manor vineyard produces a great medium dry white,
a dry, crisp special reserve and a sparkling wine originally
for the millennium. We produce about 1,000 bottles a year
and sell it almost exclusively through the hotel.
In addition to our own wine, our cellar also offers a selection
of fine wines made up of over 100 bins and some very interesting
bin ends.

For us, growing vines and producing a good wine is not only
a hobby but a source of endless fun, enjoyment and satisfaction.
But that said, we try not to take ourselves too seriously
and no where is this more amply demonstrated than in our labels
which feature caricatures of various members of our staff
and management team. Nevertheless, and despite not taking
ourselves too seriously, various experts on English wine have
been kind to us over the years.
Our philosophy on growing vines and producing good wine is
that “if it is worth doing, it is worth doing it well and
producing a great product”.
